A West Indian Trip Down Memorylane
I enjoy those conversations with my Mom when she shares something from her childhood. She recently asked me, "what is an icee again?" I instantly said, " you mean a penacool?" Sidenote: a penacool is what is known in Canada as a freezie.
But I myself was wrong, then I said "Mummy do you mean a snowcone?"
To which she responded, "you know when I was a child it was called a press. It was a machine made out of iron in the shape of a cone or a ball and the vendor would pack it tightly with shaved ice, and pour real fruit syrup and if you wanted condensed milk. There was no cup, like today, so you can imagine just eating your way from the top and bottom before it all melted."
I was just smiling and laughing at the very sight of all those kids holding a freezing piece of ice covered with sticky sweet syrup and condensed milk, lol. Ahhhhhhhhh, the good ole days 😊.
