Childhood Memory in Trinidad and Tobago
As a child I loved and enjoyed travelling. My parents passed along the travel bug very early on. One of my fave pastimes enjoyed with my family was going to Piarco Airport, sitting on top of the car and watching the planes arrive and depart, the fave being watching them land.
In those days there was a spot that directly faced the runway, which was a prime location for seeing and hearing everything (I wish I had pictures). Back then Piarco was an open-styled airport. There was a balcony where you could see every arrival and departure. You heard those roaring engines, smelt the fuel, and watched with eager breath to see your relatives deplane, and walk into customs.
I remember watching the original BWIA or BWEE, as they were called, flight crew sauntering towards the airport as they deplaned, and the crew always looked so polished. It was always so exciting.
