🌳Mango Season Is a GREAT Season🌳
Cote ce Cote la, the Trinidad and Tobago dictionary, defines mango as:
Mango season in the Caribbean is a sweet delicious season filled with an excessive amount of the sweet fleshy fruit.
Typically, mango trees bare flowers during the Christmas season and the fruits begin to ripen sound Easter time, during what's known as the "dry season", December to May, and mangoes are available to you for months after.
Mango trees are grand evergreen type trees which provide ample shade...so it's a perfect spot to have a picnic and or to just flop.
As a mango grows, as with anything, it goes through a green stage and these mangoes are best to be made into a mango chow, mainly because they aren't sweet, but have more of an acidic taste which is perfect for the mouthwatering, mango chow. A chow is a savory treat made by cutting up green mangoes and flavoring it with salt, pepper, vinegar, garlic, and cilantro(culantro, and or what we in TnT call chadon beny). Call it a chunky mango salsa if you will. (A chow can be made from any green or ripen fruit or vegetable).
When a mango is ripe, it has a beckoning aroma which exudes and can absolutely outdo any other scents, it's a sweet delicious scent. The flesh is yellow and juices flow after a bite. You have to really be a boss to not let a drop waste, lol.
There are many types of mangoes, Julie, Ice Cream, Calabash, Rose, Starch, Doo-doose(pronounced as - do-douse), and I'm sure many other types.
Mangoes are also packed full of vitamins and you can make tea from the leaves which are said to aid in many ailments. West Indians, and I'm positive Asians etc. have been utilizing these as well. So the next time you want to eat something sweet, and you can get your hands on a real mango, I'd sit down and have a bakers dozen 😆.
Benefits: Mangoes are an excellent source of Vitamin-A and flavonoids like beta-carotene,alpha-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin. 100 g of fresh fruit provides 765 IU or 25% of recommended daily levels of vitamin-A. Together; these compounds have been known to have antioxidant properties and are essential for vision. (Source)
